Obituary for Ilya Azimov

August 20, 1929 - December 8, 2020
the Bronx, New York | Age 91

Mr. Azimov was a Dentist in Russia, where he was beloved for his kindness, personality and skill

Ilya Azimov, of the Bronx,NY, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at home. He was 91. Born in Novozibkov, Russia, he came to the United States in 1994 with his wife Tatyana, to provide a better future for their daughters.

He was a selfless man who always valued family above all. He was a dedicated brother, father, husband, grandpa and great grandpa.

Ilya was a dentist in Russia. After he graduated medical school, he spent his days not only putting smiles on peoples' faces through his kindness, friendship and personality, but literally putting smiles on peoples' faces as he practiced at the highest level of dentistry. Many people fear dental visits; by contrast, people lined up at Ilya's orthodontia practice, not only for his renowned skill, but for the welcoming story or joke, and a friendly hello. Through his service to others, he developed many lifelong friendships, and always made those around him feel loved and valued.

In 1958 he married Tatyana and together they raised 2 daughters, Galya and Yana. Although he was a serious and determined man, Ilya also had a light and humorous side. For his young daughters, he made up a comical children's song. This tradition will continue to live on, as it has been passed down to his grandchildren and great grandchildren as well. Nothing made him more proud than the successes of his children and their families.

He continued, in his senior years at the community center, to engage with friends by running the domino table. The way he slammed the last winning piece - followed with a joyous laugh of course - will forever echo in the ears of everyone who had the pleasure of getting beaten by him.

He is an incredible role model and teacher. Because he cared for everyone, he also worried for everyone. As a family man, Ilya will be remembered for his care and thoughtfulness as well as the support he consistently provided.
